Community Standards Specialist
About Somersett Owners Association
Somersett is a 2,391-acre master-planned golf community in Northwest Reno, framed by the Sierra Nevada to the west and south and Peavine Peak to the north. The Club at Town Center, a 24,000-square-foot, $9 million facility, is the centerpiece of Somersett's amenities. Residents also have the Canyon Nine par-3 golf course and 27 miles of hiking and biking trails. Our team works in hospitality, recreation, and community management, and we try to make Somersett a fun, welcoming place to live and work.
Why You'll Love This Role
Do you like being outdoors and meeting people? Do you notice the small things that make a neighborhood look great? As our Community Standards Specialist, you'll help keep Somersett beautiful during the day. You'll drive the community, check that homes and common areas meet our community standards, and work with homeowners in a friendly, helpful way. You won't be a security officer. You'll be a neighborly resource who helps residents understand the standards and stay in step with them.
What You'll Do
Community Reviews
- Drive and walk the community on a regular schedule to review homes, landscaping, and common areas against Somersett's governing documents and design standards.
- Spot items that need attention, such as landscaping upkeep, paint and exterior maintenance, trash can storage, and unapproved changes, and write them up clearly with photos.
- Point out problems in common areas, such as damaged amenities, irrigation problems, and safety hazards, so the right team can take care of them.
Homeowner Outreach and Education
- Start with a friendly reminder, and work with homeowners to resolve issues before they become formal violations.
- Answer questions about community standards and point residents to the right resources, forms, and teams.
- Write and send courtesy notices and follow-up letters that are clear, respectful, and easy to act on.
Records and Follow-Through
- Keep accurate, organized records of inspections, notices, correspondence, and resolutions in VMS (or similar software) and shared files.
- Track open items and do follow-up reviews to confirm they've been resolved.
- Prepare summary reports for management and support Board compliance reporting as needed.
Parking and Common Area Awareness
- Watch for parking concerns during your rounds and report them according to association guidelines.
- Help with other community standards projects and duties as assigned.
What You Bring
- A friendly, patient, customer-first attitude. You can enforce a standard and still leave someone smiling.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organization and attention to detail.
- Comfort using MS Office and learning new software.
- The ability to stay calm and professional in a tough conversation.
- Experience in HOA management, property management, code enforcement, real estate, or customer service is a plus.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years of related experience in customer service, property management, inspections, or community management.
- A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
- A reliable vehicle you can use throughout the community during your shift.
- Willingness to turn on location tracking during working hours for route records.
- Ability to get American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR certification after hire.
Physical Requirements
- Long periods of driving, walking, standing, and talking.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Work outdoors in all kinds of Reno weather.
Work Schedule
This is a daytime position, generally Monday through Friday during regular business hours. You may occasionally have a weekend day or a seasonal schedule change based on community needs.
